The new GCC Trademark Law adopted by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is effective from September 27, 2016.The addition of new quasi-judicial forum i.e Trademark Committee changes the Opposition and Appeal process. New fee are also introduced in the new law. Official Fee has been levied for filing cases falling under original and appellate jurisdiction of Trademark Committee. The current fee applicable for filing cases with Committee is USD 540, and USD 270 for requesting hearing.So far Trademark Committee is not constituted and there is no official notification issued by Ministry. As per our verbal discussion with reliable sources in Ministry of Commerce and Investment, it is possible that trademark office start receiving cases falling under jurisdiction of Trademark Committee from Sunday October 02, 2016, however examination of Appeals might start once Trademark Committee is actually constituted.The trademark office is planning to adopt the fee schedule as provided in GCC trademark law with some notable amendments. The publication fee will remain the same and might not be changed. Registration and renewals fee of trademark will be increased by USD 540 and 670 respectively.
