THE GCC PATENT OFFICE STOPS RECEIVING NEW PATENT APPLICATIONS

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)’s member states 2020 Summit concluded on January 05, 2021 and announced in one of the decisions “the approval of the amendment to GCC Patent Regulation”.
Our verbal coordination with the GCC Patent Office (GCCPO), following this news, confirms that the GCCPO will stop accepting new patent application filings as of January 6, 2021, and GCCPO will issue an official notice based on the decision of the Summit within a few days.
We are following the developments, and update will be published on our website following issuance of official notification. We will also inform clients on status of granted patents or pending patents with the GCCPO, and alternate route of going forward including filing applications via Paris Convention or national phase applications via PCT in each of the six GCC states.
The current news is that the GCCPO will maintain its operations for pending and granted cases.
